Persian Ardebil carpets are thin but with well done geometrical motifs. These carpets leverage floral motifs. Diamond-shaped medallions are most often used. The field also may be filled with a variety of small geometric motifs and shapes: rosettes, stars, and human and animal figures.
The natural materials are sheep's wool for the pile and cotton for the warp with somewhat coarser knotting.
