Bijar rugs, nicknamed iron rugs, are characterised by their unique construction and the quality of wool used. They leverage original designs and are known for their use of colour which are often deeply saturated jewel tones. These durable rugs are woven by tough Kurdish people in the city of Bidjar. These rugs consist of thick piles, structural strength and enormous weight. The loom is kept consistently wet during the long process of weaving and combed down tightly. Once the rug is allowed to dry the wool shrinks and tightens the knots causing the rug to be extremely dense and durable. These rugs are perfect for high traffic areas such as corridors. The design of Bidjar rugs consist of a medallion in the centre of the rug, while the rest of the field is decorated either with floral design or with the herati motif reproduced in a small size and repeated to cover the whole background.
