Ziggler or Chobi rugs have unique characteristics that differentiate them from others carpets, including the process of hand-knotting on the spindle of the loom. The name comes from the Persian 'chob', meaning wood or the dyes found in wood. Ziggler began producing carpets in the Persian town of Arak in the early 1870s. Highly prized, Ziggler Chobis were commissioned in 1883 by a German company operating in England. It was the handymen of Iran and Pakistan that managed the Ziggler designs. Considered an asset in western markets, Chobi rugs became standard home decor.
